Race Around the World (Book/Supplemental Materials)

A Game for Beginning Recorder Players

by David Krosner

Race Around The World is an interdisciplinary recorder game that brings together a marriage of music and social studies. This book, PACD, and supplemental online files offer ways to integrate multiple disciplines into the music curriculum.

Including folk music from around the world representing the oral tradition, some melodies are not as you may have seen them in other books. The Birch Tree, for example, is based on a version sung to Mr. Krosner by his Russian grandmother.

The PACD contains full performance audio tracks of each piece and accompaniment versions minus the soprano recorder tracks. The audio tracks are suitable for classroom and individual practice sessions as well as accompaniment for public performance.

Full Orff instrument scores for each piece by Brent Holl and Michael Nichols are also included along with correlations to the National Standards for Music and Social Studies for each song.

The supplemental online materials include animated graphics files, country information, and pictures for use with interactive whiteboards and presentation stations and three play-a-long versions of the mp3 practice track for each song, music minus 1, music minus 2, and full performance. Print-ready pdf versions of each student score are included, plus copy-ready pdf files of the Passport and Game directions.
